UÂ鶹ӰÒô opens up campus, and science exploration, to Myers students

Students present research during a science fair.

Three experiments conducted by our Junior Falcons received top honors at last week’s U-Â鶹ӰÒô event – we are very proud to have represented the City School District of Â鶹ӰÒô’s middle schools so well on the collegiate stage!

Congratulations to:

  • Grade 6 first place – Jacob Barrera and Carl Frey – How does the weight of a paper airplane affect the distance it travels?
  • Grade 6 second place – Luke Carleo, D’artagnan Kline and Simon Robin – How does climate change hurt sea life?
  • Grade 7 second place – Eleanor Knoderbane and Quinn Moore – Hot vs. Cold Magnets

The semester may be over at the University at Â鶹ӰÒô but the campus is still buzzing with student learning – it just may not be the students you expect.

Junior Falcon scientists from Stephen and Harriet Myers MiddleSchool joined peers at North Â鶹ӰÒô Middle School and William S. Hackett Middle School to professors and graduate students at UÂ鶹ӰÒô’s Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship (ETEC) Complex on Thursday.

After the science fair, the sixth and seventh-graders explored ETEC – which houses researchers, educators and entrepreneurs – and the tour was followed by a discussion with a UÂ鶹ӰÒô atmospheric science researcher and the awards ceremony.

Most will likely recognize one of the science fair judges –  and hopefully recruited some future Great Danes!
