Happy Monday to all!
I hope everyone had a relaxing and restful weekend. As we rapidly approach the end of the second quarter, I ask that you communicate with your child the importance of handing in all assignments, including any missed work during absences, as this will affect your child's grades.
Prevent the overwhelming pressure of a last-minute rush and be sure all work is submitted on time and well before the Jan. 23 deadline.
For our eighth-grade families who were not able to attend Â鶹ӰÒô High School’s Curriculum Night on Jan. 7, you can . The presentation includes lots of great information for students as they are thinking about their course options for the next school year and throughout their high school experience.
Â鶹ӰÒô High offers a wide range of course offerings and multi-year pathways that allow students to get the most from their high school experience – including numerous opportunities to earn college credit and career certification on the way to graduation! Â鶹ӰÒô High School Principal Jodi Commerford also will be coming to speak with all of our eighth-grade students this Wednesday, Jan. 14, regarding the course offerings available to them for next year as ninth-graders.
We will have an Early Release Day this Wednesday, Jan. 14, with all students being released at 12:30 p.m. and professional development taking place for the remainder of the day. Please note that we will have a modified bell schedule Wednesday. Students will report to all nine class periods, with the exception being that class time will be reduced by several minutes per period.
We will begin administering the NWEA Winter Reading Assessments to all students this Thursday, Jan. 15 during periods 1-4.
These assessments are designed to measure student achievement, growth and foundational reading skills to provide teachers with data for personalized instruction, interventions and progress monitoring. Makeups for the NWEA Reading assessment will be held this Friday.
This Friday is our Friday Fun Day and the theme will be "Backwards Day." Let's show our school spirit by dressing in a backwards manner! We will continue to celebrate each Friday Fun Day in a different way in order to boost school pride and add a little fun to our week. This is a great way to build healthy relationships and look forward to the weekend.
There will be no school Monday, Jan. 19, as we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. If you are interested in joining the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Beloved Community March, please . Please note that this is not a school-sponsored event.
Our Extended Day Program takes place on Mondays through Thursdays from 3-5:30 p.m. and includes a free snack and free door-to-door bus transportation home. Applications are available at the Attendance Desk at the main entrance and should be returned to the Main Office. Please contact Ms. Lewis at dlewis2@albany.k12.ny.us if you have any questions.
As a reminder, please be mindful of school bus safety signals and school-zone speed limits as both carry fines as much as $300 for stop-arm violations and $50 for speed-zone violations. Delaware Avenue in front of our school and Thomas O'Brien Academy of Science and Technology is one of the city's school speed zones.
As a final note, Hackett will hold fire drill emergency response procedures periodically throughout the school year. The safety of everyone in our school community is extremely important. Holding these practice drills, including lockdown drills, is crucial to our overall emergency planning. Before we practice a drill, we teach students, faculty and staff about the procedures to follow in an emergency.
