Affordable pathways for applying to college

For many students and families, the cost of submitting college applications can be a barrier to accessing higher education.

Â鶹ӰÒô High senior Naomi Koudoagbo hopes to study mechanical engineering, but the cost of each college application can add up quickly, adding additional stress to an already high-pressure situation.

"I would definitely apply to more schools if the prices weren't so high," she stated.

Koudoagbo is grateful for the support that College and Career Readiness Counselor Jennifer Quinn and our Â鶹ӰÒô High guidance staff have provided throughout the college application process, particularly with bringing awareness about pathways to increase affordability and accessibility.

For example, during specific windows of time during October and November, every State University of New York (SUNY) and City University of New York (CUNY) campus, along with 46 participating private colleges, are waiving application fees for students who are New York State residents. Students can apply to as many CUNY schools as they like and up to five SUNY schools for free.

Additionally, Â鶹ӰÒô High collaborates with the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) to ensure students and families are empowered with important information and resources as they complete key steps in the college application process.

Our Falcon seniors are encouraged to check their Google Classroom for additional details about SUNY and CUNY free application periods, and if they need assistance, they are encouraged to visit our College and Career Center in room 1230 or reach out to Jennifer Quinn for assistance.

Be sure to check out Koudoagbo’s reflections about her college application experience that were highlighted during an  that aired on Oct. 15.
