Â鶹ӰÒô High senior Ian Roach created an original short film, Hot Boy Summer, which is one of five films nominated in the comedy category for the New York State International Film Festival in Â鶹ӰÒô!

This two-day celebration of independent cinema from local, national and international filmmakers will take place Oct. 3-4 at the Steamer 10 Theatre at 500 Western Ave. Roach's short film stars two Â鶹ӰÒô High alums, Declan Chirlin and William O'Neill.

During the course of the festival, a panel of jurors will choose the best short film for each of the following categories: drama, comedy, documentary, horror, experimental animation and music video. In addition to the short film screenings, audience members will have the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer segment with creators.

"It's an absolute honor to represent my friends and peers at Â鶹ӰÒô High at a festival like this, and I couldn't have done it without their constant support," Roach said.

During his time at Â鶹ӰÒô High, Roach has been involved in a variety of creative endeavors, including off- and on-stage roles with the Theater Ensemble as a performer, writer, director and head of public relations.

In addition to Hot Boy Summer, he has created nine other short films with his friends from Â鶹ӰÒô High that have been screened at various events throughout the Capital Region. Last spring, he received an honorable mention in the documentary category for his project Memories at the Capital Region Media Arts Festival.

Tickets for the New York State International Film Festival can be purchased . Roach's short film will be screened on Oct. 4.
