This past weekend, the Â鶹ӰÒô High School track and field team showcased its incredible talent in the state championships in Middletown, including the second-fastest time in history of Section 2 for our 4x100-meter relay team.
Nasief Smith, Daaron Harrell, Samir Gardner and Rohan Edwards-Grant locked in an incredible duel with North Rockland in the 4x100 final on Friday. The Falcons cut a full half-second off of their previous best time in the event, finishing in 41.43 seconds to earn second place in the state, just two-hundredths of a second behind North Rockland.
It was an exciting race and an exceptional performance by the Falcons. In the history of Section 2, only Colonie's 2019 4x100 team has put up a better time, 41.39 seconds (Smith, Harrell, Gardner and Edwards-Grant also own the fifth-best time in Section 2 history, 41.93 seconds at the sectional championships last month).
Additional highlights from the state competition:
- Gardner made the podium in the long jump with a jump of 22 feet 8 inches, earning third place.
- Noah Bizer delivered an outstanding performance in the 800 meters, clocking a personal best time of 1:55.71 and receiving a medal for his sixth-place finish.
- Our 4x400-meter relay team, featuring Gardner, Edwards-Grant, Adam Elia and Harrell, earned a sixth-place medal with a time of 3:20.79.
- For the girls' team, Trinity Grant placed 17th in the 100-meter hurdles semifinals, recording a time of 15.68 seconds.
Congratulations to all of our Falcons who represented Â鶹ӰÒô at the state championships! Your hard work and dedication have made us all proud.
